Women in Global Health Kenya (WGH Kenya) was established in 2022 as the Kenya chapter of Women in Global Health and formally registered as a non-governmental organization in 2025.
The chapter was founded to address persistent gender inequities within Kenya’s health system, where women form the backbone of the health workforce yet remain underrepresented in leadership, governance, and decision-making spaces. WGH Kenya works to shift this imbalance by strengthening leadership pathways, generating evidence, and influencing health policy at multiple levels.
Since its establishment, WGH Kenya has grown into a structured platform of over 250 members, bringing together health professionals, Community Health Promoters, grassroots women leaders, researchers, and policy actors committed to advancing gender-transformative leadership in health.
The organization has developed key knowledge products that strengthen the evidence base for women’s leadership, including a national desk review and the She Shapes research report.
WGH Kenya has also designed and launched the Gender Transformative Inclusive Leadership (GTIL) Leadership Framework a structured, locally developed model that equips leaders with the skills to influence governance, accountability, and decision-making processes within health systems.
WGH Kenya contributes to both national and global health dialogue. Members of the chapter have represented Kenya in major international forums, including the World Health Assembly (WHA), United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC), and the Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA).
Our vision is to inspire a generation of African women to rise boldly into leadership, innovation, and influence across every sector of society. We envision a Kenya—and an Africa—where every woman, from bustling cities to rural communities, has equal access to opportunities, education, and the resources needed to thrive. Women in Power seeks to nurture confident, resilient, and purpose-driven women who honor their heritage while shaping the future. We imagine a society where women’s voices are amplified, their leadership is celebrated, and their impact transforms families, communities, and nations for generations to come.
Our mission is to empower and uplift women across Kenya and Africa by creating a platform that promotes growth, leadership, and opportunity. We are committed to providing access to education, mentorship, and resources that enable women to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential. Through community engagement, storytelling, and collaboration, Women in Power builds a strong network where women support, inspire, and learn from one another. We aim to cultivate leaders who are not only successful but also socially conscious—women who give back, drive change, and contribute to sustainable development within their communities and across the continent.
